Merging Log Files

Core Workflow

  • The User selects n (n>0) log4net files and executes the merge function
  • The System reads in each file and produces a merged file (a merged file contains all entries of the original files ordered by timestamp)
  • The User can view and filter the merged file to analyse its content

Secondary Workflow

  • The User selects n (n>0) log4net files and executes the merge function
  • The System reads in each file and produces a merged file (a merged file contains all entries of the original files ordered by timestamp)
  • The User can view and filter the merged file to analyse its content
  • The User can select files to be included/excluded in the merging and the application adjusts the results accordingly

(Alpha Release) File Based Command Line Log4j Merger

The C# project attached to this section is a sample project that demonstrates the merging and sorting of multiple log4j files. The assembly reads in each file and outputs one log4j file sorted by timestamp.
  • The project contains a sample log4j data file in SampleData\00 Raw Data.
  • This file was (for testing purposes) split into multiple other files in SampleData\01 MergeData.
  • Executing the project will store the merged and sorted result file in SampleData\02 Results.
  • Compare the file in SampleData\00 Raw Data with the file in SampleData\02 Results to determine whether the project does work without error or not.
